Frequently asked questions

Definition of Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine applies unsealed radionuclide & nuclear techniques to diagnose & treat diseases.

What is isotope ?
Isotopes are same element with different atomic weight due to different neutron content.

What is radionuclide ?
Radioactive isotope of an element e.g., Iodine-131 is one of the radionuclide of several isotopes of iodine

Radiopharmaceuticals used in Nuclear Medicine

The radionuclide used in Nuclear Medicine are called radiopharmaceuticals as they are introduced into the body. These radioactive substances has to go through all the QC measures required by pharmaceuticals along with additional QC measures
▪  Chemical purity
▪  Pyrogen free
▪  Toxin free
▪  Radiochemical purity
▪  Radionuclidic purity
▪  Dose limit

Is it safe?
  Nuclear scan is very safe.
Non Invasive
There will be no reaction or side effects to the tracer injected.
Gamma rays are less hazardous to the patient's body than even the X-rays, in the dose injected.
